Concierge medicine and Direct Primary Care are often used interchangeably but there are important differences. Both concierge and DPC limit patient panel size to ensure access and quality of care. They both charge a monthly or annual fee, however, concierge fees are usually higher, sometimes $10,000+ a year. Another significant difference is that concierge medicine often continues to charge co-pays for each visit and bill insurance. DPC is a model based on a direct relationship between the physician and the patient, bypassing insurance to reduce costs, often making it more affordable for patients. Salt and Light DPC does not do co-pays or hidden charges and will not bill insurance.
If you have a doctor that you love, keep them. The DPC model is not for everyone.
However, if your previous interactions with your doctor have not been ideal, the DPC model may be beneficial for you. We have a significantly different model than many other medical practices and that difference has a value and a price.
Patient's say they enjoy having the direct access to healthcare with the ability to call and speak with their doctor when they are in need.
No.
Salt and Light DPC is not insurance. The monthly service fee is a payment for primary care services that are ongoing. Insurance is strongly encouraged by us and is hopefully used infrequently. By quality time and a great relationships we strive to limit specialty care, ER visits and hospitalizations, but these are sometimes necessary and costs may be helped with insurance.
Do you take my insurance?
No, we do not accept or bill any health insurance. With the DPC model, we contract directly with the patient to put them in charge of their health not an insurance company. By cutting out the middleman, we keep costs low and spend better quality of time with the patients. Insurance can be helpful in catastrophic situations, and we recommend that you have insurance to use for emergencies.
We believe that controlled substances, both narcotics (Lorcet, Lortab, Norco, Oxycontin, Percocet, Vicodin, etc.) and benzodiazepines (Ativan, Klonopin, Valium, Xanax, etc), have a very limited role in primary care and therefore these medications are rarely prescribed. We wish to work with you long term. Narcotics and Benzodiazepines are not ideal for long term care and have many risks. We do not treat anxiety with Benzodiazepines nor do we store or dispense narcotics or benzodiazepines at the clinic.
Our electronic medical records allow for a patient portal where you can view and download your records.
Salt and Light DPC operates on a monthly billing basis. There are no long-term contracts, so you may terminate your patient-physician relationship at any time. Please bring any disappointments you have with service to our attention. If the model isn't for you, we understand.
